Frequently Asked Questions
Plastic foils are a thing of the past. Dooek is the new normal and your new best friend in the kitchen!
In this FAQ we hope to have given you enough information regarding Dooek and its usage. If not, drop us a note and we will gladly answer your questions.
How To Use
Just use the warmth of your hands to wrap a Dooek around some food, over a bowl or oven dish. When the wrap cools, it holds its seal. Use Dooek to wrap a nice chunk of cheese, fresh vegetables, a piece of fresh baked bread, fruit, fresh herbs, and baked goods. Dooek is not recommended for use with raw meat or fish.
You can easily handwash Dooek in cool or lukewarm water with a some dish soap. Leave it to air dry properly before storing it away. If you want to refresh your Dooek after a while, you can put it on a parchment paper in the oven and have the beeswax melt at 80 degrees. Leave it for a few minutes, take out quickly but carefully and hold it in your hands for a few seconds until the wrap has cooled down. Now you will have a brand new wrap in your hand!
Dooek products lasts for up to a year or longer, with proper care and regular usage. Your food wrap has reached the end of life once it has worn thin and has trouble sticking to itself. You can either rewax the wrap with a refill block, or simply compost it.
We produce various sizes and products of Dooek. If you are new to beeswax food wrapping, we recommend starting with a mixed 3-pack, which includes one small 20x20 cm, one medium 25x25 cm and one large 30x30 cm. By experimenting with these sizes, you will learn which size is most convenient for your household.
Do you have a wrap that turned a bit white, like a strange white residue covering the print? You might think that your wrap has turned bad or starting to mold, and you might consider throwing it away. Please don't! Here is why: Pure beeswax will never go bad. The white residue, is called wax bloom and is a part of the natural oxidation process. It can happen overtime, when beeswax gets cold or is stored cold. The wax bloom isn’t harmful, and you can just ignore it and keep on using your wrap as usual. If you do want to take it away, then here are some things you can do: 1. Rub it off gently by using a soft towel, wet or dry, or even your hand. 2. You can use even use a hair dryer. Don't set the heat too high otherwise the wax may start to melt. 3. Refresh it in the oven, when you have used it already for quite some time. More info under 'How to care for my Dooek'.
